Methane Hydrates: Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation

Methane hydrates, also known as "ice that burns", are an ice-like substance abundant in sub sea sediments and in permafrost areas, and they are studied as a potential energy resource as well as environmental and technological hazards. Gas hydrates are only stable in low temperatures and high pressures, and unstable otherwise, and this creates challenges for their modeling and simulation. We present our recent results on modeling and analysis which show that their models are similar to the Stefan free boundary problem.
