I will discuss the historical role of precision measurements of the mass of the W boson and the gyromagnetic ratio of the muon in our understanding of undiscovered particles. The talk will concentrate on the methods used to make measurements with extreme precision but will highlight some of the theoretical inputs and consequences in these measurements.
